Agency Partners and Volunteers Come Together to Fight Suicide
Sunday, September 20, 2020
The following is a Sept. 21 release from the Worcester County Health Department:
In the era of Covid-19, as we all try to protect our mental health and cope with uncertainty, it’s more important than ever that we be there for each other and take steps to prevent suicide. Residents from the Lower Eastern Shore will be joining the thousands of people who are gathering in towns across the United States to draw attention to the suicide prevention movement. The Ocean City, Out of the Darkness Experience, hosted by the Worcester County Health Department and the OC Out of the Darkness Committee, will be held on September 26, 2020 at

.
This gathering will support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s education and support programs and its bold goal to reduce the annual U.S. rate of suicide 20% by the year 2025. This year will be the 9th annual event held by the Ocean City Out of the Darkness Committee, and the first year that it will be held virtually.
In addition to the virtual event, members of the Ocean City Out of the Darkness Committee invite you to attend a “Night of Reflection,” on Friday, September 25, 2020. This event will be held at Public Landing Wharf, in Snow Hill, MD from 6 pm to 7:30 pm. The “Night of Reflection” will honor those that we have lost to suicide, those that have a personal struggle, and those that support the cause. Additional registration is required, please contact

for more information.
“Suicide touches one in five American families. By connecting and sharing our stories with each other, we will keep going in the fight to stop suicide. Together, our community sends the
message that you are never alone, that healing is possible, and when we connect, we create hope. Together we keep going,” said Christen Barbierri, LCT Coordinator Worcester County Local Management Board, Walk Chair for Out of the Darkness.
The Ocean City, Out of the Darkness Experience is one of hundreds of events being held nationwide this year.
