Special Thanksgiving farmers market, this Saturday in Ocean Pines
Sunday, November 14, 2021
(Nov. 15, 2021) The Ocean Pines Farmers & Artisans Market will kick off the 2021 holiday season with its annual Thanksgiving Market this Saturday, Nov. 20.
The special event, in White Horse Park in north Ocean Pines, will be filled with local produce, baked goods and everything needed for a festive holiday home and table.
"Our Thanksgiving Market has become a tradition for many Worcester County residents," market manager David Bean said. "This year, we expect over 30 merchants to open their businesses for this special market day."
The tradition dates to 2012, when the farmers market grew from a seasonal happening to year-round marketplace and introduced several unique events. A Tuesday Thanksgiving Market was later added in 2017, to accommodate shoppers picking up freshly baked goods for their holiday dinner.
On Saturday, marketplace greengrocer D. J. David & Company will have a large, curated selection of fresh fruits and vegetables. Local Hayman sweet potatoes and newly harvested New Jersey cranberries are a favorite of the greengrocer's shoppers.
Kitchen staples, including celery, onions and fresh herbs will be available, along with popular vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower and brussels sprouts. Kale, cabbage and collard greens from local growers will also be abundant.
DelVecchio's Bakery will have a generous selection of baked goods, made at their Snow Hill bakery. Shoppers can expect breakfast Danish, and homemade breads and pies for their holiday feast.
For those who prefer to bake their own pies, the farmers at Stag Run Farm carry several varieties of orchard apples at the market. Included will be late-season Pink Lady apples, and heritage Black Twig apple.
Fans of mulled cider and wine should visit JABBS spice shop, which offers several blends of mulling spices for warming up a festive beverage, including pumpkin and apple pie.
Synder's Produce and Pretty Things will again be selling their handmade wreaths and rope garland, through Christmas. Snyders works with regional Christmas tree growers to gather the perfect mix of winter greens. Each wreath and garland that comes to the market is handmade by the Snyders, and each comes with a beautiful bow to garnish the top.
Additionally, many artisans and crafters will offer a variety of merchandise for those looking to shop locally for holiday gifts.
Cove Craft & Treasures will feature a selection of seasonal decor for the home. Among their most popular items are decorative snowmen created from porch posts.
Hand painted ornaments can be found at the market gallery of Sally Crisp, and the jewelry makers at Storigems create many unique pieces available in matching sets for holiday giving.
Along with the special Thanksgiving Market on Saturday, the Ocean Pines Farmers & Artisans Market will also open on Tuesday, Nov. 23 for last-minute shoppers and pick-up of specially ordered baked goods. The Tuesday market will be open from 9-11 a.m. in White Horse Park.
The Ocean Pines Farmers & Artisans Market is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon, through February. In-season hours return in March, with the market open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
