Dana Cooper won the annual Men’s Club Championship golf tournament, held last Saturday and Sunday at the Ocean Pines Golf Club.
It was Cooper’s sixth championship win and his first since 2011. The Ocean Pines Men’s Golf Association (OPMGA) hosted the tournament.
“The Championship Flight was played from the Blue Tees at 6,632 yards and was dominated by Dana Cooper with rounds of 78 and 81,” OPMGA Director of Communications Bob Long said. “Several shots back were a cluster of competitors, led by runner-up Mark Watts, while Frank Ruggiere had the Championship Flight’s low net score.”
According to Long, the rest of the field was divided into two flights and played from the Gold tees. Long won the low gross in the First Flight and Ron Olszewski earned the low net score. In the Second Flight, Bill Stafford had the low gross score and Bill Thomson had the low net.
Long added, “The weather was warm and summerlike, while the course was challenging, with deep rough and soft fairways.”
The Ocean Pines Men’s Golf Association runs several events and tournaments during the year and hosts “Men’s Day” every Thursday morning. Events are open to Ocean Pines homeowners and members of the Ocean Pines Golf Club.
