County urges residents to use caution, as minor flooding likely

Periods of minor coastal flooding are likely, through the end of this week, according to Worcester County Department of Emergency Services’ Emergency Management Director Billy Birch.

Birch, in a communication to community partners today, said, “[The] National Weather Service has issued Coastal Flood Advisories for our coastal communities along the Atlantic coast, lower Potomac River Basin and the Chesapeake Bay for later today through Thursday afternoon.”

“Due to the expected prolonged nature of onshore (north) winds, there will very likely be additional periods of minor flooding impacts late this week through early next week,” he said. “There is also the potential for areas of moderate coastal flood impacts as we get into Thursday night through Saturday.”

Birch recommends that residents watch forecasts throughout the week.
