Large crowds and heavy traffic are expected during Ocean Pines’ Fourth of July fireworks celebration and carnival this week.
The carnival, to include games, bounce houses, dry slides, and food and drink vendors, is scheduled from 4-8:45 p.m. Entry is free and cash-only wristbands are $10 for children 5 and up, $6 for children ages 2-5, and free for children under 2.
Fireworks are scheduled to start at 9:15 p.m. and go to 9:45 p.m. The fireworks will launch from the north side of the pond, by Cathell Road, and the viewing area will be at the Worcester County Veteran’s Memorial near the corner of Route 589 and Cathell Road.
Throughout the event, officers and neighborhood watch will direct parking to the areas near the Ocean Pines Library and Taylor Bank.
Parking will also be available at the Manklin Meadows Racquet Sports complex and surrounding areas. Again, officers and neighborhood watch will direct parking.
Pedestrian traffic, if at all possible, is highly encouraged.
Parking will not be permitted along Ocean Parkway. Limited handicapped parking will be available in a marked area just south of the Sports Core Pool.
At the conclusion of the fireworks, pedestrians will be given preference over motorists. Residents and guests should anticipate delays throughout the day.
