Maryland Presidential Primary Fact Sheet
Tuesday, May 12, 2020
The following is a communication from the Maryland State Board of Elections:
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Maryland’s Presidential Primary will be conducted by mail. This approach will ensure voters can exercise their fundamental right to vote while also safeguarding the public’s health during this pandemic.
Following are important facts about the upcoming Presidential Primary in Maryland:
Originally scheduled for April 28, 2020, the Presidential Primary has been moved to June 2,2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
All eligible voters in Maryland will automatically receive a mail-in ballot at the address on file with the Maryland Board of Elections.
Although ballots display the original primary date of April 28, mail-in ballots are in fact valid for the June 2 Presidential Primary.
No postage is required to vote by mail. All mailed ballots include a return envelope and pre-paid postage.
Voters should sign only the oath on the outside of the envelope – not the ballot itself.
Mail-in ballots must be postmarked no later than June 2, 2020 but can be mailed at any time before election day.
Those who are unable to vote by mail may vote in-person on election day, June 2, 2020, at a vote center in the jurisdiction where they live. Ballots can also be dropped at established ballot drop-off locations between Thursday, May 21, 2020 and Tuesday, June 2, 2020.
In-person voting centers and ballot drop-off locations can be found online at: https://www.elections.maryland.gov/elections/2020/20_PP_Vote%20Centers_an d_Drop%20off%20Locations.pdf
To reduce the risk of spreading the novel coronavirus, the state board of elections recommends that voters who can vote by mail do so.
Voting by mail is safe, secure and free.
Votes remain secret when voting by mail. Mail-in ballots are counted using the same equipment utilized for in-person voting. This equipment is never connected to the Internet or any other database.
Registered voters who do not automatically receive a ballot in the mail may submit a ballot request to
[email protected]
or call 1-800-222-8683.
Those who wish to register vote in the June 2nd primary must do so by Wednesday, May 27th. To learn how to register to vote, visit https://elections.maryland.gov/voter_registration/.
More information about this election is available online at www.elections.maryland.gov or by contacting the State Board at 1-800-222-8683.
