Viola, OPA sign general manager agreement

Term six months; association continues search for permanent replacement

The Ocean Pines Board of Directors today entered into six-month agreement to employ John Viola as the association’s general manager.

The terms of the agreement are good through Dec. 1, 2019.

Viola, a former budget and finance advisory committee chairman and current association treasurer, has served as interim general manager since March.

As general manager, Viola will execute and administer policies of Ocean Pines as set by the board of directors and governing documents. He will handle hiring, evaluation and termination of employees as necessary, and oversee financial and business operations of Ocean Pines.

“One of the benefits of having John remain in the role is the continuity on not only the initiatives that are in progress, but as we plan and look ahead,” Association President Doug Parks said.

“We have a great team to work with in Ocean Pines and I’m happy to continue being a part of that,” Viola said. “We’re moving forward on a number of initiatives, including the new golf clubhouse, implementing the new NorthStar software, restarting the bulkhead repair and maintenance program, and looking into a pay compensation study.

“I look forward to continuing to work with the board, Operations Director Colby Phillips and Finance Director Steve Phillips, and the great team we’ve assembled here,” Viola added.

The association continues its search for a permanent general manager. A request for proposals to determine the feasibility of outsourcing management came back as cost prohibitive.
