OPA announces Police Chief Massey retirement, Lt. Ehrisman as his successor
Tuesday, July 14, 2020
(July 14, 2020) The following statement is from Ocean Pines General Manager John Viola:
It is with mixed emotions that I announce the retirement of Chief Massey on August 1, 2020. Chief has been with Ocean Pines for 17 years. Under Chief Massey, Ocean Pines is noted as the safest community in Maryland.
Lieutenant Leo Ehrisman is very well respected within the police community of Worcester County. He works well with all leaders and has intimate knowledge of crime within our community and county. Lieutenant Ehrisman was selected as Police Officer of the Year a few years ago for the entire county. He is a member of the Maryland Chiefs of Police Association and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). He has attended advanced administrative training and is well suited for the position of Chief of Police. With his 34 years of policing in Ocean Pines, he is closely tied into our community and is well aware of the style of policing necessary to keep Ocean Pines one of the safest communities for its size in Maryland.
Over the last three years, Chief Massey has developed a succession plan in preparation for this day. And I am proud to announce the promotion of Lieutenant Ehrisman to Chief of Police for Ocean Pines.
Please join me in wishing Chief Massey well, and congratulations to our new Chief of Police Leo Ehrisman.
