Highlights from Jan. 26 OPA Board meeting

(Jan. 26, 2021) Video for the Jan. 26 special Ocean Pines Association Board meeting is now available online.

The meeting was held in the administration building Board room.

During the meeting, the directors voted 7-0 to adjourn to closed session “for the purpose of discussion [of] matters pertaining to employees and personnel specifically pertaining to the OPA Internal Succession Planning Process; a Resolution B-08 complaint against a Director; applicant document review related to the succession planning program as permitted by the MD Homeowner’s Association Act, Section 11B-111(4)(i)).”

Prior to the closed session, Association Vice President Colette Horn asked to make a comment.

"This is the second time we're going through a process like this, this year. And it has caused me to reflect on what Director Tuttle said when he had made his decision to leave the Board," she said. "And what he said was, when his volunteer activity no longer brings him joy, he has to reconsider his investment in that volunteer activity.

"His reconsideration led ... him to leave the Board," she continued. "I don't think this process is a joyful process for any of us, and I think we had some tough discussion [and] we're going to continue to have some tough discussions. And, I am hopeful that on the other side of this we will emerge stronger as a Board, stronger in our teamwork as a Board, and that this will be a learning process for all of us with respect to key issues, such as the B-08 process – I think we've all recognized that there's some improvements in that that need to be made, [and] the succession planning process – I think we all agree that there are some changes that need to be made. And I think the complaint itself gives us an opportunity to learn from the perspective of the employee who's put forward the complaint.

“And so, I am hopeful that we all are entering this [discussion] today ... hoping that we all will come out in a better place as a Board and as directors when it's done," Horn said.
