Public Works to no longer mow easements and ditches per FY 26-27 budget

(May 5, 2026) Ocean Pines would like to remind residents that per the approved 2026-2027 Fiscal Year budget, Public Works will no longer mow easements and ditches in front of homes.

Homeowners are responsible for maintaining the grass in these areas moving forward. Previously, Public Works only cut half of the ditch, with the remaining half being the homeowners’ responsibility.

Per Section 10.D. of the Declaration of Restrictions, “On each lot, the rights-of-way and easement areas…shall be maintained continuously by the lot owner”.

The elimination of mowing easements and ditches was first discussed during the December 18 and 19 budget hearings, as well as the January 15 Budget Town Hall.

General Manager John Viola also addressed the topic at both the January 24 and April 25 regular board meetings, explaining that funding for the service was reallocated to support other initiatives, including drainage and storm-related cleanup efforts following the recent blizzard.
