About

The Ocean Pines Public Works Department is responsible for equipment and fleet maintenance, snow removal, and the maintenance of nearly 80 miles of roadways, 125 miles of stormwater improvements, and 12 miles of canals.

In addition, the department provides general maintenance on Ocean Pines facilities including the Administration building, Public Works building and yards, community center, the Ocean Pines Golf Club, Beach Club, Yacht Club, two marinas, the Artisan Gift Shop, five swimming pools with accessory buildings, the Racquet Sports Center, several basketball courts, two ball fields, a soccer field, several ponds, numerous other parks and playgrounds, and several miles of walking and biking paths.

Other responsibilities include:

• Grass cutting in ditches and easements throughout Ocean Pines (April to October)

• Leaf removal (November to December, picking up bagged leaves and vacuuming raked leaves from drainage ditches)

• Snow removal and the maintenance of 80 miles of roadways (potholes)

Did you know?

On average, during rain storms, Public Works gets 50 phone calls a day in regards to drainage ditches. The department does its best to respond to these requests for service in a timely manner, but residents should understand that delays may inevitably occur.

The ditches in Ocean Pines are designed to hold water during storms, so that yards and roads do not become flooded. Although it is sometimes alarming to see the water rise rapidly in these ditches during heavy rain, most ditches will dry within 24 hours after a rain. Ditch water that remains at high levels after the 24-hour period may signify a more serious problem and require a call to Public Works.

Water and wastewater

The Ocean Pines Public Works Department is NOT responsible for providing water and sanitary sewer services. Those services in Ocean Pines are provided by Worcester County. For questions or to report an outage during regular business hours, contact Worcester County Water and Wastewater at 410-641-5251 and select option #4. After business hours, please call 410-641-5251 and listen to the entire message - the county has an emergency phone system in place for weekends, holidays and inclement weather.

Having problems with the water in your house? Need your water turned on/off for the season? Is the "mushroom" tank in your yard making a strange noise? Water bubbling up near the roadway? Stones coming loose after a fixed water pipe road cut (square cut in the road)? Wastewater coming up in your bathtub? All of these services are provided by Worcester County Water and Wastewater.

Trash services

Additionally, trash pick-up services are provided by Republic Services. Please contact Republic Services directly at 410-749-1551 for questions about your trash pick-up.

Leaf Collection Options

Fall 2022 Leaf Collection

The Ocean Pines Association has announced leaf collection procedures for its residents this fall.

Public Works will collect bagged leaves (paper bags only) and other yard debris from Nov. 28 through Dec. 22, on opposite days from Republic Services collection days.

Republic Services will pick up paper and plastic bags on scheduled pick-up days, limit four bags of leaves per scheduled pick up. Republic Services will also accept branches tied in bundles no longer than four feet.

Additionally, Ocean Pines residents may bring leaves and yard debris in bulk or paper bags to the Public Works yard at 1 Firehouse Lane, near the south Fire Department. The yard will be open Nov. 28 through Dec. 31, Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The yard will be closed for drop off Dec. 23-26.

Public Works will also vacuum leaves beginning Nov. 21, moving through the community two times before finishing for the season. Only leaves in ditches that have been raked to the curb will be vacuumed. Branches should not be raked with the leaves. Residents should refrain from blowing leaves directly into the ditches, as this can lead to clogging of pipes as well as difficulty in water flow.

For more information, contact Public Works at 410-641-7425.
