Pocomoke Middle 5th graders visit Worcester Co. Veterans Memorial for field trip
Tuesday, May 19, 2026
(May 19, 2026) 5th grade students from Pocomoke Middle School visited the Worcester County Veterans Memorial at Ocean Pines on Monday, May 18, as part of an educational field trip focusing on honoring veterans and learning about United States history.
During their visit, students had the opportunity to learn from the local Pocomoke High School Marine Corps Junior ROTC cadets about proper flag etiquette, including how to correctly fold a flag.
Docents from the Worcester County Veterans Memorial Foundation shared the history of the American flag and explained proper flag display. Volunteers, including veterans and retired school educators, guided students through the Memorial while providing insight into the layout, military branches, and commemorative pavers.
Students also walked the Patriots Pathway to view individual plaques and learn about significant American conflicts, from the Revolutionary War to the present day.
The Memorial recently underwent extensive renovations, including the addition of the Space Force wall and flag. Additional improvements include beautifully landscaped walkways, updated commemorative plaques, and enhanced seating areas.
Don McMullen, Suzie Pantone, and Michelle Winemiller, members of the Board of Directors for the Worcester County Veterans Memorial Foundation, help lead several of these educational field trips each year as part of the Foundation’s mission to engage the community and educate local youth.
5th grade students from Blessed Sacrament visited earlier in May and Berlin Intermediate and Snow Hill Middle School will also visit the Memorial over the coming weeks.
The Worcester County Veterans Memorial honors all who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces and serves as a living tribute and educational resource for the region.
