Worcester Co. Veterans Memorial Foundation honors Marie Gilmore
Wednesday, May 27, 2026
(May 27, 2026) The Worcester County Veterans Memorial Foundation honored Marie Gilmore for her 21 years of service at a special luncheon on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25.
Marie was first appointed to the board in 2005 and served in various positions, including Secretary, Vice President, and President. She was instrumental in many of the memorial enhancement projects, such as the addition of the Patriots Pathway, POW/MIA Chair of Honor, The Battlefield Cross, and hosted The Walls That Heal event, honoring Vietnam Veterans and receiving a retired wall panel.
Marie oversaw the construction of the Veteran Gazebo at Veterans Memorial Park, a joint project between the Ocean Pines Association and the Veterans Memorial Foundation. This gazebo has enhanced the experience for students attending the Veterans Memorial on annual field trips.
In May 2025, the Worcester County Veterans Memorial was designated as an official “Gold Star Memorial Site” and dedicated on Memorial Day by the Federated Garden Clubs of America and the Worcester County Garden Club.
Most recently, Marie has been instrumental in the “refresh” of the memorial, which included regrading of the site, new cement and brick work, refreshed landscaping, and the addition of the new Space Force wall and flag.
“Marie, your dedication to our veterans community and the Veterans Memorial is a reflection of who you are, and we thank you for your continued service to our community,” said Rick Farr, President of the Worcester County Veterans Memorial Foundation.
At Monday’s luncheon, Marie was presented with several proclamations for her service from State Senator Mary Beth Carozza, Delegate Wayne Hartman, Commissioner Chip Bertino, the Town of Ocean City, OPA Board President John Latham, and members of the Worcester County Veterans Board of Directors.
Also in attendance were Marie’s family, the Worcester County Veterans Board of Directors and their guests, OPA Board of Directors and their guests, OPA General Manager John Viola and his wife Camille, Ocean Pines Police Chief Tim Robinson and his wife Angie, and Jack & Kathleen Bannon.
