OPA Board of Directors unanimously approves GM contract extension

(June 1, 2026) At the May 30 regular board meeting, the Ocean Pines Board of Directors unanimously approved an extension to General Manager John Viola’s contract.

President John Latham noted, “based on his excellent performance and after discussion with him, the motion is to provide to Mr. Viola two additional one year extension options through an amendment to his contract such that he will have the ability to extend his contract up to three years beyond the current end date of June 30, 2028.”

“Ocean Pines has never been in the financial shape that it is today,” said Secretary Jeff Heavner. “John brings with him such experience, integrity, promises made, promises kept, and John has an eye for the long game. His forecast favorability is spot on every time. He accounts for every penny of our money and it’s much appreciated. We’d be stupid not to try to keep John as long as we can.”

Director Elaine Brady also commended Viola, saying, “one of the things that I have really watched John do amazingly is mentor his staff. If you look at all the departments, what they are all doing, how capable they are, he’s mentoring them as they come along.”
